Makeup tip from my cultural background

Hey Tint Fam, today’s blog post is from Team LT’s Mesha, who shares a makeup tip from her cultural background! Keep reading to find out what she has to say…

I remember my mom putting coconut oil in my hair as a kid and feeling so embarrassed by the smell. Not because I didn’t like it, but because I knew other people wouldn’t. She would often mix it with Amla oil or ghee as a hair mask to strengthen my hair when it was growing or recovering from hair dye.

Now I laugh at that memory because over the last couple of years coconut has become a huge trend for the beauty sphere, and brands like Kopari and Cocovit are thriving because of it. But it’s no secret that coconut oil is a classic beauty necessity in Indian culture, and if you grew up in a South Asian household, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

Coconut oil is a staple for my beauty routine. I use it for everything from hair masking to shaving cream to moisturizer. It has always worked wonders to sooth my sensitive skin and strengthen my hair. My personal favorite to get my coconut fix is no other than Trader Joe’s Organic Virgin Coconut Oil. Pop this baby in your skincare fridge and grab as needed for all of your moisturizing needs. You’ll thank me later. ~ Mesha
